ShowShow has a new site!

I do realize that no one reads this site. Why not? Well, I haven’t done diddly dick to tell anyone about it, I rarely post and I have like a trillion sites that I start and then stop (which pretty much goes against every blogger rule, like, ever) – but, fuck it.

Miles and I have been doing this podcast for over 4 years now or something stupid like that. I have no idea how we are not famous.

Whatever (she said as she flipped her hair), here is the new site with the new feed to ShowShow, the ABSOLUTE MOST AWESOMEST PRETTIEST AND SLUTTIEST PODCAST ON EARTH! You should really listen to it if you don’t already.

Okay, love you. (Slams door)

Day 3: “Internet is a bunch of bullsh**”

So on to day three at SXSW(hiskey), and for this installment I think it might be prudent to share with you some of the gems I have overheard from Mike and Reid at the interactive portion. Now, I should preface this with the fact that these two dudes tend to be a little more negative than I am. I mean, I have my days where I hate everything and don’t give people a chance, but the jaded vibe of “that’s lame” that can emanate off these two is alarming at times. Okay with that, here are my favorites:

“What’s the deal? No one showed up to the crowdsourcing panel.”

***

“Augmented reality meet up?! How am I even supposed to show up for that?!”

***

Reid: Everything is a pitch, Katie.

Me: Oh yeah, what are you pitchin’ today? Pessimism?

***

Mike (while typing on his phone): WHOA did you see that?!

Reid: It’s voice control, Mike.

Mike: What do you do with it?

Reid: Talk to it, Mike.

Mike: Hi! HELLO! Hi.

***

Then we came up with two panels that should have been at SXSWi

1. Name Fail, Brah: Missed Opportunities in SXSWi Panel Titles

2. That’s Lame: The Positive Effects of Negative Thinking (this panel would be lead by special guest speaker, Reid)

I also came up with the best and most annoyingly geeky tattoo ever for this event:

So after we hit some more sessions we got a bite at Iron Works BBQ, charged phones and then were off to meet up with some east coast music types for dinner at Peché (home to the best whiskey sour I have ever had). We were then going to hit up a party, but walking by it looked weak, so…on to GINGER MAN!

While we were there a group of tech guys walked up to chat about what we thought was the future of the Internet. I simply showed them my sharpie tattoo and they exploded in laughter and gave us all high fives. Then they disappeared. I will say this though; the fact that they walked up to us and started chatting proved that Mike was wrong about how web geeks don’t communicate in real life (ahem, it’s IRL, Mike…jeeze). So kudos, dudes.

Okay, the music has started to fill the streets now as we power nap and gear up for the next round.

SXSW(hiskey): Day 2

Instead of a play by play of day 2 (which could potentially be really boring), I thought displaying the day in cruddy iPhone pictures would be a nice depature from the norm (and I admit, also potentially boring). So, here that goes.

Photo4

This was taken at the Etsy event. I was hoping there would be a ton of ladies selling their wares, but instead it was table after table of people putting beads on string. Disappointing. However, we did see this rad set up, which includes an old-timey sewing maching hooked up to some other type of crazy technology.

So, the top picture is looking up in the Hyatt right before the Comedy and Social Media panel. I detected Stone-like qualities. The second is the actual panel discussion with Michael Ian Black, Marc Maron and some others. It was by far the most enjoyable panel thus far and it had me bustin’ up. Those two dudes are a great duo and hearing them talk about this stuff was more benficial than some of the techy dudes here. For example, the panel we walked out of was lead by a guy who said “right?” after EVERY sentence. Sir, you are not Mark Zuckerberg and no, you are not right. Grumble. Anyway, the comedy one killed. So good and enlightening.

Walking back from the Hyatt and taking in the awesome Austin skyline. Love this town.

After taking a quick break back at the room, we decided to venture back out to the streets. Enter the Side Bar with its rad Tom Waits wall painting, chill outside area and friendly bartender.

Finally, we hit up a friend’s new bar called the Yellow Jacket Social Club to meet with the Riverboat Gamblers and Broken Gold. (It’s a great bar by the way and we will be going back because Mike left his card there. Kids, that’s what happens when you say yes to every shot someone suggests.)

The dudes are doing well and Fadi was so on. The guy really needs a stand-up comedy hour. He did this bit about a guy who stole a giant marlin from a bar once. It was brilliant, trust me.

Okay, back out into the city. More to come.

Nerdin’ Out in Austin

Arrived in Austin, Texas yesterday to meet Mike and Reid at SXSW. On the way to the hotel I got an earfull from the cab driver about his love/hate relationship with the week-long festival. “300,000 people! Streets closed down! What would YOU do?!” I didn’t really know how to put him at ease, so I changed the subject to the weather. “It’s been beautiful,” he said.

Considering the time, we decided to check out the Jackalope and scope it out for our pary on Friday. At one point two topless chicks came in with a shirtless dude and jumped on the giant Jackalope at the front door for a picture. Was it for a scavenger hunt, or were they just “really cool”…we may never know.

From there we hit Gibsons and met up with the Riverboat Gamblers for some lively chatter. I asked Rob if he was excited about his show on Thursday with Roky Erickson and he rightly is. Roky is the man. Other than that, drinks were had and a cab was taken.

Fast forward to me running to get my badge and find a seat at the Hilton for the session called “Finding Music with Pictures.” Yeah, nerding out in Austin. It’s cool, okay? It is. Right now this guy is showing us a chart that postulates “Radiohead fans are smarter than Beck fans.”

With that I leave you. Nerd things call.
